Venus' Slipper RIP

I have some disturbing news... well not really :D
I had to change the title of my book :( A little bit sad, mainly because Venus' Slipper was mine for so long, but I guess now it will always be mine.

Why did the book have that original title?

Venus' Slippers are rare orchids found in the Rockies, and found on the ranch in my story. They burst into flower, and then disappear as if they were never there--which was symbolic for my heroine, who intends to disappear in much the same way.

Now my new title is supposed to be a little more evocative of the Romantic Suspense genre.

Whaddaya think?

My new title... Her Sanctuary

  1. I like both. :-)

  2. I kind of like Venus' Slipper better - but then only because of the meaning behind it - if you had asked that without the explanation I don't know which I would have picked. But Her Sanctuary works.

  3. Thanks Peggy and Eve.
Her Sanctuary fits the role that both the hero Nat and the ranch play in her life/escape.

And we all know Venus is the Goddess of Love. Plus it is my ruling planet LOL. Lots of cosmic karma, but unfortunately maybe not enough.

  4. Don't take it personally, Toni. They don't mean to not like Venus' Slipper, they're just looking for sales, which works out better for you!

Can't wait to read it. :D

  5. Meretta--I didn't did I? Did it sound like I did? No!!! I thought I did pretty well considering VS is my fourth child (dog, kids, book) LOL.

  6. I like "Venus Slipper" mainly because of what you pointed out on your blog. But the other title is nice too.

  7. Hmm...I'd have to agree with Eve. I like Venus' Slipper better. But Her Sanctuary is also a good title.

  9. Rene, Melissa thanks! I might make myself a little sign, or a fancy piece of art using the name VS :) Putting it on the wall as a reminder to call everything DRAFT :)
I'm not despondent or annoyed, just having a day of mourning :) and rejoicing because I really do like the feel of Her Sanctuary!

  10. What can I add to this...? Ditto, love Venus' Slipper but emphathise with the publishers re catching a glipse of a title and yanking it off the shelf - in that instance guess Her Sanctuary works or maybe Steamy Cowboy Love Romps On Squashed Venus' Slipper. (?)

  11. I like Venus' Slipper, but I'm used to that. :)

I'm sure it will do well either way :)

  13. Nobody squashes rare orchids in my book :D But I think he's hot--for an imaginary friend :D

  14. Oh no - they're not imaginary - they're real (you need one of those blue nodding smilies). They have to be or we wouldn't be able to write about them. In other words, they have to be real to us. Does that make any sense, or do I need to go back to sleep?

  15. Well, you know how I feel about Venus Slipper, but Her Sanctuary is good, too.

  17. the new on sounds good too! But it sucks when you're so attached and they have to change it.

  18. Eve--they are real :D

Mary, Scott, Dennie--thanks! I do like the new title. I can easily live with it and I'm looking forward to it coming out. VS will be what I always call this book in my head, but I can give it a knickname of Her Sanctuary. Me and DD are discussing knicknames right now so it'll be good :)

  19. I love the Venus Slipper analogy with your heroine but also like the title Her Sanctuary. Either way, I will be a reader! Sounds like a great story.
