Pomegranates

I think I hate pomegranates. I wish I could say more definitively, 'I hate pomegranates' but I can't. You see, I like the thought of pomegranates and the look of pomegranates (and yes they look a bit rude and yes I was raised on Carry On films), but the stupid things are so impossible to eat I just end up with a bloody mess all over the kitchen counter (and over my keyboard if I'm honest).

Is it just me? Am I the only loser who can't get to grips with this stupid fruit?

I'm editing--thus the mental breakdown. It is going okay, but I sometimes look at my heroine and think 'who can love you with that mouth?'

Wonder where I get my inspiration???

  1. How can you not look at those luscious pomegranates and not think of the Song of Solomon for inspiration? (The Bible, for anyone who didn't go to Sunday School) And how could anyone not want to kiss Scarletts' mouth anyway? I love pomegranates but rarely buy them as they're expensive out here. Kiwi fruit are next on my list of exotics. Where'd you get that cool picture anyway? :) It inspires me, at least!

I'm with you on this one Toni....I love the thought of eating them, until I break it open and am faced with having to pick out the juicy bits...having said that, I don't think I've come across them here. It's mango season though...yum!

  4. I don't think I've ever had a pomegranate. I have had some rather delicious apples lately, though. ;-)

  5. I love pomegranates. We have to bushes that produce a ton every year. My kids love them. I bought some pomegranate syrup which I use in sauces for chicken and pork. The fruit has the right balance of sweet and tart. I just eat them on a paper towel at my kitchen table. Yeah, they're messy but worth it.

  6. Rene, I like the idea of syrup, but I'd still probably look like a road accident.

    Julie--I love mangoes :) Yum.

Laurie--like I said, I love the looks LOL.

Melissa--Red delicious my dd's and my mother's favorite. Funny considering they are seperated by thousands of miles.

Diane--would there be anything left? Let me know I'm curious.

  7. Um, I must be the only one that doesn't like them.

  8. I feel the same way as you. I make a big old mess when I eat them. This year, logic has prevailed and I haven't bought one. Yet.

  9. I bought one not too long ago and introduced DDs to them. It was a mixed reaction.

At my grocery store they had a little sign up telling people how to peel and eat them properly. Didn't make a bit of difference to me. The mess was still present afterward!
