Memorial to Firefighters

Last week Winnipeg lost two veteran firefighters in a house fire. Today is their memorial service. Capt Harold Lassard and Capt Tom Nichols. It somehow seems fitting to have the memorial today--Valentines Day--for these brave souls.

How do you say thank you to people in the fire service? How do you thank people who will risk their lives for strangers on a daily basis?

Another man was critically injured and my deepest hope is he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Thank you, seems so inadequate.

  1. Such a tragedy, when the fire was caused by the owner's teenage girls smoking - then running out of the house. We lost a firefighter in Barrie when he got trapped in a basement and couldn't break open the window to free himself. These men are truly heros and never know what they're going to find when they pull up at a scene. Thanks for remembering them, Toni.

  2. What a touching tribute Toni. These men were true heroes, and my heart goes out to their families. Such a senseless loss - I hope these girls never forget what their carelessness caused.
