The Novel Writer's Toolkit

I just finished this book by Bob Mayer. It is succinct, covers a lot of bases, and is easy to read. If you're a writer keen to understand the business of publishing fiction, or just the practicalities of being a writer, I recommend this book.

  1. I have that book. I started it and thought it very good, then got distracted and abandoned it. Perhaps I should get back to it.

  2. I'm still looking for the book that speaks to me as a writer, that will motivate me and give me the spark I need. Maybe it doesn't exist. Maybe I just need to sit my ass down and just do it!

  3. Scott, have you tried Stephen King's 'On Writing'? I find it very inspiring though I haven't read much of his work.

Thanks for the int, Toni. I shall look it up. :)

  4. Hey, can I borrow it for my "post-surgery" phase! :) I've read about half of the books you've already lent me, and am especially enjoying "Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom: Demons are Forever".
And I say "ditto" to our wonderful weather here. My vine peas and tomatoes are coming along nicely!

  6. Merretta - I have actually read a portion of that book, but like most books I read I could only get part way through. Maybe I'll give it another shot. But I think I just need to stop belly aching and get back to doing what I love best. Thanks for the suggestion!
